In a Forbes interview, Director Tiffany Paulsen expressed her excitement about being able to work with Jenna for the romantic drama Winter Spring Summer or Fall.
Jenna and her co-star from Wednesday Season 1, Percy Hynes White, began shooting Paulsen’s film just three weeks prior to the premiere of Wednesday on November 23, 2022. As the series surged in viewership on Netflix, Jenna’s fame skyrocketed, with Wednesday becoming the platform’s most-watched series ever.
“It’s an interesting story in that we started shooting on Halloween day of 2022,” Paulsen recalled for me in a recent Zoom conversation. “In order to get Jenna for the movie we had to do backflips and cartwheels and jump through so many hoops … we only had a little window of time. I think it was 11 days.”
“We had to shut down production for three weeks in order to allow her and Percy to do all the Wednesday press. I think Jenna went to the Brazil Comic-Con and she was traveling,” Paulsen recalled. “Then Wednesday premiered and she came back to us as this global phenomenon [which] had exploded, and we shot the rest of the movie. So, we got her at this very interesting and monumentally exciting time in her career.”
The director was thrilled by how adept Jenna was in the romantic drama genre, especially given her previous association with horror through Ti West’s X and Radio Silence’s Scream and Scream VI.
“In the first couple of days of shooting, I felt for my first movie I had really won the lottery to have this girl and her talent and this story,” Paulsen said. “I don’t know what more I could have asked for.”
Winter Spring Summer of Fall—which makes its world premiere Thursday at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York City—is still awaiting a release date.
