“Beetlejuice Beetlejuice Beetlejuice!”
Once again, those three cursed words launch an adventure stretching from our world to the afterlife and everything in between.
The official trailer for Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, a sequel to the 1988 horror-comedy classic, was released Thursday. According to the movie’s official synopsis, an unexpected family tragedy brings three generations of the Deetz family back to Winter River, Connecticut, where Beetlejuice was last brought to life. When a portal to the afterlife is opened in the attic, trouble begins. The mischievous demon returns to unleash his very own brand of mayhem.
The trailer opens with an ominous warning from goth heroine Lydia Deetz, played by Winona Ryder. “Here’s a preview. Be warned: It’s intense,” Deetz says as she sits beside an old-fashioned television set.
The nearly two-and-a-half-minute clip shows the Deetz clan grieving the loss of Deetz’s father, Charles. Deetz and her daughter Astrid (Jenna) are later seen reflecting on the family death, and Astrid offers a dash of wry humor.
“Death is hard,” Deetz says, to which Astrid replies, “Yeah, sometimes I think life is harder.”
The film will hit theaters on September 6, 2024.
