This coming Sunday, February 11th, Jenna will be adding her appeal to the latest in a long line of successful Doritos Super Bowl commercials. Needless to say, this is a big thing.
Traditionally, the Super Bowl has been the Holy Grail of opportunities for advertisers. With ratings ebbing and business models crumbling, last year’s edition registered the largest audience of any TV event in history, with 115.1 million viewers. This year’s matchup between the San Francisco 49ers and the Taylor Swift-supercharged Kansas City Chiefs could make the big game even bigger. It’s no wonder advertisers are not being shy about buying in, even at a record $7 million for a 30-second spot.
The Dinamita ad shows Jenna’s abuelas in a James Bond-style chase scene, pursuing Danny Ramirez and launching a pitched battle to claim the last bag of Dinamitas. In the end, “Dina” and “Mita” recover the bag, only to have Jenna snatch it away. Further mayhem is promised.
Doritos has gone in for maximum exposure. Not only have they released multiple teasers of the commercial, they also ran a building-sized ad on the side of the Luxor Hotel and Casino on the Las Vegas Strip (below).
Although only a one-minute version will air on game day, the two-minute extended cut is below.
